Sometimes A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: Rolling Stone’s Miscalculation

Not sure what was the thinking behind the new cover of Rolling Stone. Placing a beatifying picture of a mass murderer on your cover truly may be the way to gin up controversy but it really is not the way to get people to buy your failing magazine.  This attempt at “being edgy with real news” is more than a miscalculation. It is an insult to the American people.

The Daily Caller laments that the article is actually a good read. It explains the workings of the dysfunctional family from which the killers came. It talks about the lack of moral underpinnings and ethical sense of reality. It shows the missteps and mistakes in a young life that led to this deadly decision. It is not an apology for his actions. It is an explanation. The New Yorker agrees.

In the end the article may actually send a wake-up call to the American culture and the political Left. In the past decades we have gone from a society that had limits and boundaries with moral and ethical understandings, to a world where every political or religious thought that some individual somewhere may have is all of equal value. But no, every view of the world and of society is not equal. It is time to understand once again that there is a line between good and evil, right and wrong, morality and depravity. It is a sad statement on society that we have to tell young people: it is NOT cool to blow people up with a bomb no matter what your political or religious grievance. It’s even sadder that we have to say it ad infinitum.

The political Left’s use of shame, historical guilt and self-flagellation in the guise of political correctness and cultural relativism is tearing apart the fabric of this nation. It is this revisionist view of what America has accomplished around the world that is allowing others to think they can murder with impunity. It is the Left’s shove-it-down-your-throat self-hating idea that the lives and treasure America has spent in pursuit of freedom around the globe as the true evil, which the American populace rejects.

Americans are tired of it. Americans have had enough of the blame-America first crowd. We have sent our sons and daughters to do battle around the globe to bring freedoms to areas with names that most of us cannot even pronounce properly. Our children fight and die in far off places in order to bring people, that none have ever met, the same rights and freedoms that we take for granted here in the USA.

It is the hate-America-first-Left that says you cannot force democracy on people. It is the hate-America-first-Left that says not all people are ready for freedom, democracy and the right to choose the path of their own lives. It is the hate-America-first-Left that carries within its quarter the soft-racism of cultural relativism. Rolling Stone magazine is a Leftist politically correct publication that is characterized by tearing down everything good about the United States of America. It is an emblem of that blame-America first culture.

This is why there was such a  visceral outcry about that Rolling Stone’s cover. Not because the American people are too ignorant to be able to try to figure out what motivates a terrorist. We are not a stupid people. We know in order to defeat the terrorist we need to understand how to fight them. But the American people are tired of those in our own nation who quite frankly spit in our faces for everything good we do around the globe while putting on a pedestal those that seek our annihilation.

It might also be good to note that simply because you have a Constitutional right to do something doesn’t mean you should do it. It takes a conscientious narcissistic self-righteous disregard for others to think that you are above criticism and immune from condemnation for your actions.
